AMIODARONE AND LITHIUM
Hypothyroidism developed very rapidly in 2 patients taking amiodarone when lithium was started.
Note that lithium has been tried for the treatment of amiodarone-induced hyperthyroidism, and regular monitoring of thyroid status is recommended throughout amiodarone treatment. Lithium therapy has rarely been associated with QT prolongation, and consequently the UK manufacturer of amiodarone contraindicates its combined use for a general discussion of QT prolongation.
