CARBAMAZEPINE AND OPIOIDS - OTHER OPIOIDS
Carbamazepine appears to reduce the serum levels of fentanyl (48 to 144% dose increase needed), methadone (opiate withdrawal seen), and tramadol.
Be alert for the need to increase opioid doses. Note that tramadol should be avoided in patients with a history of epilepsy.
