DIURETICS AND MACROLIDES
Erythromycin increases the AUC of eplerenone 2.9-fold. The manufacturer predicts
that clarithromycin and telithromycin will interact to a greater extent. Eplerenone
reduced the AUC of erythromycin by 14%, which was not considered clinically
relevant.
The manufacturers recommend a maximum eplerenone dose of 25 mg daily in
those taking erythromycin. Because they predict a greater effect with clarithro-
mycin and telithromycin they contraindicate the concurrent use of these
macrolides. Other macrolides seem less likely to interact.
