NNRTIS AND PHENOBARBITAL
The concurrent use of carbamazepine and efavirenz leads to a modest reduction in the plasma levels of both drugs; similar effects are predicted to occur with phenobarbital (and therefore primidone).
The manufacturers say that when efavirenz is given with phenobarbital, there is a potential for reduction or increase in the plasma levels of each drug: they therefore recommend periodic monitoring of plasma levels.
