PHENOBARBITAL AND VITAMIN D
The long-term use of phenobarbital can disturb vitamin D and calcium metabolism, which may result in osteomalacia. There are a few reports of patients taking vitamin D
supplements as replacement therapy who responded poorly while taking phenobarbi- tal or primidone.
Monitor the outcome of concurrent use. Larger doses of vitamin D may be needed.
