PROCAINAMIDE AND TRIMETHOPRIM

Trimethoprim causes a marked increase in the plasma levels of procainamide and its active metabolite, N-acetylprocainamide.
The need to reduce the procainamide dosage should be anticipated if trimetho- prim is given to patients already controlled on procainamide.
