QUINOLONES AND SUCRALFATE
Sucralfate causes a marked reduction in the absorption of ciprofloxacin, moxifloxacin, lomefloxacin, ofloxacin, norfloxacin, and sparfloxacin, which may lead to therapeutic failure. It seems possible that other quinolones could be similarly affected.
The interaction is reduced if sucralfate is given 2 to 6 hours after the quinolone. Proton pump inhibitors and H2-receptor antagonists do not normally interact and may therefore be possible alternatives in some patients.
