RIFAMPICIN (RIFAMPIN) AND TACROLIMUS
Rifampicin increases the clearance and decreases the bioavailability of tacrolimus. In some cases a 10-fold increase in the tacrolimus dose has been needed to manage this interaction.
Tacrolimus levels and effects (e.g. on renal function) should be monitored as a matter of routine, but it is advisable to increase monitoring if rifampicin is started or stopped.
